Living the LCM SpiritRead our stories

Thank God always for the happiness and beauty of life - it is beautiful.
Venerable Mary Potter's Last Words.

Religious Life

Where am I on my journey? In our world today people are dying in countless ways - physically, emotionally and spiritually.

The Little Company of Mary Sisters, in union with the Maternal Heart of Mary at the foot of the cross, share in the healing ministry of Jesus on Calvary. Our call is to:

  • Care for the suffering and dying through prayer and presence
  • To bring hope, courage and new life to those in need

The Little Company of Mary Sisters are women called from all walks of life who have freely chosen to live within community. Prayer and a personal commitment to Jesus is an integral part of our life. We are bounded by common prayer, a simple lifestyle and a vowed commitment to the vision of our Foundress (Venerable Mary Potter) and the mission of the church. We live out this mission through being involved in different ministries such as:

  • Constant prayer for the dying
  • Refugee
  • Health Care
  • Palliative Care
  • Pastoral Care
  • University work
  • Partnership in health projects
  • Support for the aged

An invitation to journey with the Little Company of Mary

There are various stages involved in order to become a Sister with the Little Company of Mary:

Women interested in the life of the Little Company of Mary Sisters, enquirers, are accompanied on their journey and given spiritual direction, which enables reflection and integration of their own lived experience to help them discern whether religious life is a viable option.

Once the enquirer has discerned that life as an LCM is their vocation, they begin the Formation process. The first stage of Formation is the Candidacy, a time in which a woman explores and deepens her basic understanding of LCM religious life. This is experienced through living in community which will introduce her to the LCM charism and spirituality. The candidate continues to work in her chosen profession during this time. This period can be from six months to two years.

The second stage of Formation is the Spiritual/Canonical program. This is a period of time where the woman is assisted to come to a deeper understanding of vowed life as a viable way of living the mission of the Little Company of Mary. This period is approximately two years and will occur at the International Novitiate House in Manila, Philippines.

Profession of Vows

The final stage of Formation is the profession of vows where the Sister fully participates in the life of the Congregation. This means that there is a willingness to continue to integrate and accept the demands and joys of the vowed life, within your local community and in your personal relationships.
