‘Jesus wants to be present to us on our journey of life, to bring us into his joy and happiness. This story about the disciples on the way to Emmaus helps us grow in the realization that he is with us always. We will often find him when we least expect him, and we may not even recognize him.’

‘The journey of the disciples to Emmaus mirrors our own journey through life. Like the disciples, we often find ourselves walking along the roads of uncertainty, doubt, and despair. We may encounter moments of confusion, disillusionment, or grief that obscure our vision and dampen our spirits.’

Articles quoted in Catechist magazine ‘Journey to Emmaus, recognizing Jesus’, published 4 March 2011

How has the story of Emmaus affected my life?

I have recently reflected on this story and how it reflects on my husband and my present road/journey with the challenges of growing old…. change…. doubts…. loss……

Ageing is a new experience for me??? And the challenges to my faith it presents.

For me in our present world climate it is to find the ‘Jesus’ in our life …. again….to renew our faith when there is so much ‘negative’ happening in our world.

How do we get the ‘joy’ back into our lives?

Where do we get the inspiration and hope that is needed in our world today?

Venerable Mary Potter is an inspiration and catalyst for faith. To read and reflect on her life story has impacted on so many of our lives today and continues to each day.

“We have the power within us of doing good of living our lives for God and the good of those around us”. Mary PotterThe Human Life of Jesus.

How do we in our everyday life emulate her faith, love, and trust in our world?

I am finding more and more in my life it is the very little moments that have given me strength, faith, and hope. Those encounters with others that truly inspire you to appreciate that we do have the power to change and bring the joy back each day.

The joy to make those encounters full of hope, love and meaning as each person who enters in our lives deserves our full appreciation and presence. The encounter has meaning …. the encounter has impact……the encounter has the ability to start change……the encounter gives warmth and the gift of connection…….
