The Mary Potter Camellia
December 14, 2022 | Uncategorized

The pale pink peony-type camellia was named “Mary Potter” to mark the sesqui-centenary of Mary Potter’s birth on 22nd November 1847.  The camellia was developed at Camellia Glen Nursery in South Taranaki, on the North Island of New Zealand.

A Mary Potter camellia was planted in the Camellia Garden at the Christchurch Botanical Gardens in Canterbury, on the South Island of New Zealand.

Three of these beautiful flowering shrubs also grow happily in the garden adjacent to the Mary Potter Community Centre in Christchurch.
